The Guacamayo Ecolodge located along the Cuyabeno River in the reserve Cuyabeno is one of the Lodges highly recommend for your vacation in the Amazon Rainforest, bird watching, canopy tower and great guides!

Accommodation:

The accommodation can be in matrimonial, double , triple or quadruple rooms. All the rooms feature private bathrooms , mosquito net, cold and hot water, electricity generated by the solar panels, dining room, resting place with hammocks, smoking area,  pier with chairs to lay down in the sun.

The Guacamayo Ecolodge is located in the northwestern part of the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve, near several lakes and lagoons where you can have a refreshing swim or search for caimans. The Guacamayo lodge promotes responsible ecotourism by providing e.g. solar energy and biodegradable products for the toilet system. The lodge’s sustainable tourism is benefiting directly the local communities in the area and at the same time protecting the unique flora and fauna of the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve.

4 NIGHTS / 5 DAYS

1.- Quito – Lago Agrio – El Puente. Following either a flight or a bus journey one day prior to the tour or overnight to Lago Agrio, the meeting point is at PLANETA AZUL at 9:00 am where you can purchase your own breakfast with an extra cost of 4USD, here the guide will pick you up at 9:00 am,  for the people going by plane you will be pick up at the airport. After picking up the guests who arrive by plane, we will journey by private bus to El Puente, the entrance to the Cuyabeno Reserve. From El Puente we take a canoe trip down the Cuyabeno River to the lodge where we will have our lunch, following by a siesta before you start the activities. In the afternoon you will go to the Laguna Grande to swim and watch the amazing sunset, we conclude the program with an exciting nocturnal walk, followed by dinner and a talk on the animals and the environment of the jungle.

2.- Laguna Grande. After breakfast, we trek into the primary rainforest to learn about medicinal plants and the biological flora and fauna. After lunch, you can relax by the river or enjoy a siesta in one of our hammocks. The afternoon activities include swimming in the lagoon, and Caiman spotting. We conclude the evening with a fabulous sunset and a delicious meal.

3.- Cuyabeno River. Today we will hike in a different part of the forest. This includes the opportunity to see the biggest trees in the Amazon Rainforest and different ecosystems. We also visit an Indigenous Community, where our naturalist guide will explain the culture and traditions of the native people, here we will prepare traditional food after that we will enjoy a delicious lunch. We will conclude the day by experiencing the beautiful sunset at the lagoon and take the opportunity to spot more wildlife, before you have dinner.

4.- Our 4 day program takes the opportunity to paddle in an ecological canoe to experience jungle life at a slower pace.- The schedule gives you greater opportunities to indulge in the magic of the jungle and offers the opportunity to see the elusive wildlife not already spotted.

5.-El Puente-Lago Agrio-Quito. We will watch the birds and animals in the tranquility of the early morning. After the bird watching we will watch the sunrise over the jungle canopies. After breakfast, we journey up the Cuyabeno River to El Puente, taking our last look at the jungle animals, flora and fauna. We will arrive in Lago Agrio at around 2 pm, followed by your return flight or bus journey.

Long sleeved cotton t-shirts 2 or more, insect repellent, long trousers, 2 or more (not jeans),  zip-lock bags to keep clothes equipment dry, shorts 2 or more, binoculars (optional), t-shirts 2 or more, torch (flashlight) with extra batteries, cotton socks a pair per day, sun block, comfortable walking shoes and sandals, insect repellent, windbreaker or sweater, first aid kit, toiletries (biodegradable shampoo and soap), hat or cap, bathing suit, plastic water bottle, cotton underwear, book and notebook, sunglasses, towel, camera with film speed 200 or 400, original passport, small backpack (waterproof).

BUS QUITO – LAGO AGRIO – QUITO

There are several options to travel to the meeting point. You can take a bus ride from Quito to Lago Agrio which takes about 7 to 8 hours.

OPTION 2: Share Van Quito – Lago Agrio – Quito

We book the tickets for the Share Van and you can pay upon arrival to the driver.

OPTION 3: Public bus ride Quito – Lago Agrio – Quito

We can recommend you the bus companies :  Esmeraldas, Baños, Occidentales and Loja. The buses depart from the Carcelen bus station north of Quito or Quitumbe in the south. You can purchase the tickets in the office of Esmeraldas bus company located in the 9 de Octubre and Colon Street near Plaza Foch, or in the bus station at Carcelén or Quitumbe. People traveling from Banos de Agua Santa can book the bus tickets included in the package at our office.

However, there are a lot of different bus companies going from Quito to Lago Agrio which enables you to go there almost every hour during the day.

The meeting point is at PLANETA AZUL, in Lago Agrio at 9:00 am for the people arriving by bus. The people arriving by plane, will be picked up at the airport in Lago Agrio, by one of the staff members of Guacamayo Lodge.
