You will be amazed as you walk through the jungle, where around 400 species of plants have been identified in one acre alone. Magnificently colored birds, of which there are 500 species, fly overhead.

Monkeys, sloths, anteaters, armadillos, tapirs, jaguars, manatees and fresh water dolphins are just some of the mammals that live here, along with a great variety of reptiles such as snakes, caiman, and the great anaconda. A plethora of fish can also be found in the jungle, including Paiche (Arapaima) and the famous piranha.

ITINERARY (5D / 4N) ( 4D /3N)

1.- Quito - Lago Agrio - El Puente. Flight 10:30 a.m. or bus journey (one day before - 8 hours) to Lago Agrio. Journey from Lago Agrio to El Puente. Canoe trip down on Cuyabeno River to our camp site. We will go on an exciting night walk followed by dinner and a lesson on the animals and environment of the jungle.

2.- Laguna Grande. After breakfast, trek into the primary rain forest to learn about medicinal plants and biological flora and fauna. After lunch, relax by the river or enjoy a siesta in one of our hammocks. Afternoon activities include Piranha fishing, swimming in the laguna, and Caiman hunting. We conclude the evening with a fabulous sunset and a delicious meal.

3.- Cuyabeno River. After breakfast we paddle by traditional dug-out canoe on the Caiman-Cocha (Laguna del Caiman) where we will enjoy the unique surroundings, have a picnic lunch, and hike in the primary forest to learn about the use of plants for survival. Before we go back to our camp, enjoy a refreshing swim in the river and watch the sunset on the magnificent Laguna Grande.

4.- Cuyabeno River. In the morning, we will take a hike to experience another type of terrain in the Amazon-the semi-flooded forest. On our way, we will visit an Indigenous Community, where our naturalist guide will explain the culture and traditions of the native people. Here we will visit with the local Shaman, prepare traditional food, and have lunch. We will go Piranha fishing in the afternoon before heading back to our camp. After dinner we will take a night canoe trip in search of Caimans.

5.- El Puente-Lago Agrio-Quito. We will wake up early for morning bird watching. After breakfast, we journey up the Cuyabeno River to El Puente. We drive back to Lago Agrio at 16:00, followed by a flight or bus journey back to Quito.
