Climbing Ecuador, Climbing Ilinizas

Ilinizas South

The Ilinizas South (5245mt) is located 55km Southwest of Quito. It is famous for being the sixth highest mountain in the country. Prehistorically they were one volcano but today the two peaks are separated by a saddle of about 1km in width.

The southern peak has deglaciation changes caused by global warming, affecting its ice conditions and is thus now reserved for experienced ice climbers. Hence, expertise on ice techniques is requested. The South peak suggests several challenging and demanding routes. The tour start the climb at night from the refuge Nuevos Horizontes at an altitude of 4670m. We offer a professional bilingual guide, Mountain base support, equipment and 4*4 transportation.

The Ilinizas are are two peaks located 55km Southwest of Quito. Iliniza Sur (5250m) is famous for being the sixth highest mountain in the country whilst Iliniza Norte (5126m) is the eighth highest.

Ilinizas North

Prehistorically, they were one volcano but today the two peaks are separated by a saddle of about 1km in width. Both peaks offer some of the more enjoyable climbing in Ecuador. For the hiker or soft climber, the North peak is a truly fun climb with some heart- stopping scrambles thrown in. South peak has experienced some deglaciation changes induced by global warming, now affecting its ice conditions. South Peak is thus reserved for experienced ice climbers and expertise in ice techniques is requested. The South peak provides several challenging and demanding routes as well.
