Nicky Lodge, Cuyabeno Amazon Lodge. Elegant and comfortable, Nicky lodge located on the Cuyabeno River in the Cuyabeno Reserve awaits for you!
Nicky Lodge, this lodge is situated in a magnificent area in the Cuyabeno Reserve, allowing you to see lots of wildlife and plant species !
DAY 1 – The journey begins at “El Puente” at 11:00am, the main entrance to the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve and our last moment with the civilization. We continue by motorized canoe down the Cuyabeno river for about 2 and a half hours until we reach the Nicky Amazon Lodge. With a little luck we’ll be able to observe monkeys and bird species along the way. The Cuyabeno river is narrow in the upper part and this allows you to experience wildlife up close. A welcome cocktail waiting for your arrival at the lodge. Later you will have time to rest and go on your first activity enjoying the surroundings. Before dinner we will go on a night walk to watch for different species of insects, spiders, tree frogs and others. After dinner your bilingual guide will tell you about the activities for the following days.
DAY 2 – In the morning we’ll explore the area looking for monkeys and bird species in the tropical rainforest. Return for Breakfast. Some time to relax and then we will walk through the rainforest and our guide will share all his knowledge and experiences of the rainforest. We’ll learn how the most diverse forms can coexist and survive in nature and side by side within a delicate balance. We may spot colorful butterflies, frogs and listen to some bird songs as we learn more about the great variety of flora of the Area. Return to the lodge for lunch. After we have short time to rest and enjoy nature, we can swim, play soccer or just take a nap. In the afternoon we’ll take a trip by canoe down the Cuyabeno River, taking us through the dense jungle landscape. We’ll observe the wildlife found on the riverbanks, including monkeys, macaws, toucans and sloths. We’ll have a good chance to see pink river dolphins in the impressive river landscape. Before dinner, after dusk, we’ll explore the lodge’s surroundings to look for nocturnal animals such as insects, spiders, snakes and frogs.
DAY 3 – Optional morning excursion includes a short trip by canoe.
We will look around and try to find species of monkeys and birds and maybe sloths on the way in the surroundings of this spectacular place. After breakfast you will have time to pack your luggage for the return journey. We provide a box lunch for the trip back. The ride takes you upstream back to the Cuyabeno bridge ‘El Puente de Cuyabeno at 10h30. Where a tourist bus will take you back directly to Quito or maybe you will get on a public bus back to Lago Agrio at approximately 13h00p.m and from there you will catch bus back to Quito.

we’ll have an interesting activity. We will visit our Indigenous Siona community to share their daily life in the Amazon Basin. we’ll have a demonstration on how to make ‘Cassave’, the typical manioc bread of the region. Additional we’ll learn about the local customs and traditions of their past and present culture. Return for lunch. In the afternoon we’ll travel by motorized canoe up the Cuyabeno River to reach the Laguna Grande. As we explore the lagoon, we’ll learn about the ‘Igapó’, the ecosystem of the flooded forest and dominated by giant macrolobium trees which provide habitat for epiphytes and some species of birds such as cormorants. After exploring the lagoon, we can swim in the calm waters while watching the spectacular sunset of the Amazon region. Later we’ll continue our adventure observing the nocturnal fauna of the river landscape with some species of bats and we will look for caimans on the way down to the Lodge. Dinner

we’ll have the opportunity for an additional excursion, either in our canoe or hiking. The choice depends on the weather conditions and the interests of the group. After breakfast, we will explore through the forest. Our guide will tell you more about the medicinal use of the flora as it has been used by native cultures for generations and how they could survive into the jungle. Lunch time. In the afternoon, we’ll explore the Cuyabeno River by paddling canoe to enjoy the views of this exceptional scenery and listen to the sounds of the jungle as we look for exotic local species. Really an amazing activity.

After breakfast you will have time to pack your luggage for the return journey. We provide a box lunch for the trip back. WHAT TO BRING:

There are several options to travel to the meeting point. You can take a bus ride from Quito to Lago Agrio – entrance Reserve Cuyabeno which takes about 10 hours.

We can recommend you the bus company Banos. The buses departure from the north bus station Carcelen or Quitumbe in the south, almost every hour. You can purchase the tickets in the bus station of Carcelén or Quitumbe.
The meeting point is at the “ENTRANCE RESERVE CUYABENO” at 11:00 am.
