The tourist development of Yacuma consist of the following areas:
– The first one is a group of 12 “cabañas” (bungalows) built in the traditional Amazon-style, made from rainforest materials harvested in a sustainable manner and combined with modern materials which can be easily taken away from the jungle if necessary.
All these cabins have 2 rooms, each one with private facilities and 2 comfortable twin beds with mosquito nets. In the second area we find the spacious dining room, the kitchen and the comfortable reception area.
Yacuma Reserve and Ecolodge is located in the Napo River area in the Ecuadorian Amazon Rainforest. The Yacuma Ecolodge spans 300 hectares (3,000,000 square meters). With it richness in species and diverse ecosystems, Yacuma Forest Reserve is an extraordinary place for Ecotourists.
3 DAYS 2 NIGHTS TOUR
Day 1: Quito (or Baños) – Yacuma Lodge
Tena to Santa Rosa. Transportation to Santa Rosa, where you will board a canoe, to enjoy one of the most iconic river experiences of your life to reach the lodge. (20-30 minutes river navigation). After the check inn, you can plan with your guide a visit to Yacuma’s exclusive “Hidden Lagoon”.
Day 2: Yacuma EcoLodge
Hidden between 275 hectares of primary rainforest jungle, activities in Yacuma are abundant and offer you the opportunity to try out any of the following options:
-Jungle Hikes ranging from 30 minutes to hikes of 4 hours where you visit a Yacuma Exclusive “Tutapishco” Bat Cave. On any hike, explanation of medicinal plants, local birdlife and much more will be given by your guide.
-Visit to the local Kichwa community of Chontayacu, where we can appreciate their simple jungle driven lifestyle.
-Shop for locally produced handicrafts and organically produced crops.
-Kayaking or “Tubing” activities in the river.
After dinner we will have our farewell celebration next to the common fireplace.
Day 3: Yacuma EcoLodge -Tena
If the weather permits, an early rise allows visitors to explore one of the few “clay lick” areas in the region. These unique mud structure attracts local birdlife every day by the hundreds. Alternatively, we can head to the viewpoint of Yacuma to observe the sunrise. After breakfast we will say goodbye to our friends, and board our canoe to once again take the incredible river back to the entrance of the Napo River where is the end of teh tour.

If you decide to make this wonderful trip in public transportation, you must go to Quitumbe station South of Quito, where you can take the Flota Pelileo bus at 6am or Expreso Baños at 7am these are fixed departures. The cost is $ 6.00 per person, and the trip to Tena is 5 hours.
We recommend the first option to arrive early, which allow you to enjoy the delicious food of the area and gives you time to buy your tickets at the Centinela bus station to the 13h00 bus to San Pedro. The travel time is about 2 hours; you should be at the station a 15 minutes before departure.
When you arrive in San Pedro, our staff will wait for you to take you in canoe to our lodge (30 minutes).
If you are traveling in your own car, it is recommended that you leave Quito before 7am, because it takes about 5 hours to get to Tena and 2 more hours to arrive in San Pedro.
You do not have to worry about leaving your car in San Pedro, because there is a parking space where a family is in charge of guarding the car.
You can have breakfast in Baeza, we recommend Gina’s restaurant (specially trout). For lunch in Tena, we recommend the Amazonas restaurant or All Deli. Please remember that we will have dinner waiting for you at the lodge on fist day.
When arriving in Tena, take the road towards the new airport in Ahuano to get to San Pedro, where our Yacuma staff will wait for you.
On you way back to Quito, we recommend that you visit Misahuallí to meet the monkeys living on the beach and afterwards enter the Jumandy caves ($ 3.50 p.p) or you can travel to Papallacta and enjoy a bath in the hot springs water ($ 7.00 p.p).
Yacuma is located in the rainforest, which is characterized for heavy rainfalls through the year with precipitations among 3,000 and 4,000 mm3 and humidity between 85 to 95%. From December to March, it has a marked dry season, the rainy weather goes from April till July; and from August to November precipitations are moderated. The annual temperature ranges over 25 Celsius degrees (77 Fahrenheit).
